Escaping Present Day with Cafe Moon
Cafe Moon is situated above the railroad tracks. The skinny building is wedged between shoe stores that have been there for decades, though they will probably be forced to shut down any day now. Everything about the neighborhood and the interior of this cafe makes you feel like you've left 2017 Seoul far behind.
You can order off the menu which is written on an old record, and take your seat either at the first floor counter or upstairs at the three other tables. The places is crowded with memorabilia from a time you can't quite put your finger on. For example. upstairs there is a desk with old pink erasers, a pencil sharpener, and a quill. The bathroom is covered with newspaper clippings from all over the world, all from a seemingly vague era.
The drinks range from Maxim instant coffee, to a classic Korean traditional medicine drink of ssanghwa tea with an egg yolk. I went for something safely in the middle and got my favorite misugaru. This drink is made from multiple kinds of grain, mixed with milk or water, and whisked together to create a milk-leftover-after-cereal taste that I can't get enough of.
Something about this place makes you feel like you're in another city, another time.
