Let Them Eat Cake at Hungo Ringo
Hungo Ringo Bread in Mangwon-dong, Seoul has been a favorite of mine for a while. Unfortunately, it also seems to be everyone's favorite bakery so when I arrived today only 30 minutes after opening, all the seats were taken.
The owners are great though, and found me a chair and table to sit at so I could eat my pastries surrounded by the smell of baking bread.
The bakery is run by a young couple, and became popular last year when their green tea pound cake and ridiculously hipster cafe interior took over Instagram. Their cafe is decorated with random knickknacks they've collected from their travels, and the result is a super cozy atmosphere.
The real reason for their fame though, is their baked goods.
Normally, I would order their green tea pound cake which is out of this world, but since it was my first meal of the day I settled for their equally delicious canelé. Super crunchy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside, its the perfect treat paired with hot coffee.
And I always love a cafe that gives you a free shortbread cookie with your drink.
There are only four tables in the bakery, and Hungo Ringo now sells their pound cake at other cafes in the area. It's great to see that they're doing so well!
It's also just fun to look at their ever-growing collection of oddities.
